Avant Festival - Poland, with Alva Noto/Carlsten Nicolai

Avant Art Festival is a permanent event for more ambitious audience. The need to look in a different way on modern art, especially music, created the idea of the festival that isn’t limited to one kind. The festival wants to present different ways that are chosen by artists and are something more than official or university art. Avant Art Festival’s aim is to present different often eclectic types of art that is focused on covering up the boundries among different kinds to create new quality which is based on unusual forms of expression.

At the turn of September and October (24-26.09 and 1-4.10) Wroclaw will be the centre of music and theatre experiments. One of the artists will be Maja Ratkje – the first lady of avant-garde, Norwegian scene and the famous trumpeter Arve Henriksen. The unique event will be the concert of James Plotkin and Mick Harris. During two autumn’s weekends we will also see very interesting performances, for example the one given by a multidisciplinary band “Verdensteatret” from Norway that uses advanced technology and animation or the MaisonDahlBonnema & Needcompany. At the festival one can see the performance of [Minus 20] collective that is a surprising effect of Polish, Norwegian and French cooperation.
Avant Art Festival is a true celebration of avant in art. idea and programme it exceeds the standards of the festival and sets new horizons of perception. “We create this event to present the art on high level. The priority is eclecticism: the full aesthetic and type marriage not only of music but also of avant art and experimental art” said Kostas Georgakopulos, the director of the festival.

The third edition of AVANT ART FESTIVAL is a must-see event for all discriminating aficionados of unconventional music and art. This year particular emphasis will be laid on presentation of new Norwegian art, showing not only the newest achievements of local experimental music scene but also performances by researching and avant-garde theaters. It will be unique opportunity to see some artists for the first time in Poland – for example MAJA RATKJE or JAMES PLOTKIN who will perform on stage together with MICK HARRIS – he will be playing drums for the first time in years! Line-up of the festival will host such stars as ARVE HENRIKSEN & JAN BANG, OFFONOFF (comprising members of ZU, THE EX and THE THING), maestro of contemporary electronics ALVA NOTO and THE THING in collaboration with OTOMO YOSHIHIDE among many other unusual artists. We will also host the concert of two ladies of artistic electronica – MIRA CALIX and ANDREA PARKER with their joint project called FREAKY BITCHES.
